October 22, 1980 I did a two hour taped interview with Hal Curtis.  We broke for lunch and Hal related the following story to me.  He asked me if I was familiar with the canoe that his father used in the Kutenai series.  “He said he was about 16 year’s old, working with his father during the summer months of 1910.  He was exploring along the shoreline when he spotted a sunken canoe a few yards off the shore.  With his fathers help, they managed to get the boat ashore.  After a couple of hours of work, they were able to repair the damaged skin of the boat.  When it was thoroughly dried, his dad used the boat to recreate the past for the present.”  These photos appear in volume and portfolio number seven,  the "Kutenai Duck Hunter" is one of those images.
